Every spring we gather in Erickson Hall to celebrate our Student Scholars who are about to head out into the world of college. The residents love seeing the students honored, and the students love seeing the residents at the event.

During the ceremony, a video played featuring each student scholar. You find out what dining room they work at, where they are going to school, and what they love most about working with the residents. It’s great to see the interaction between the residents and the students and how much they respect them. In fact, many of them wrote about how they act as grandparents and love getting advice from them.

Enjoy a great program celebrating the students you see every night in the dining rooms! This airs on Friday, March 7th at 10AM, 2PM, 7PM, 9PM, and 12 midnight.

You can also watch it the following day online at oakcresttv.com

The Science Wagon

Located in the Inner Harbor, the Maryland Science Center is one of the best places for kids to visit…but we believe the same is true when it comes to seniors. Thanks to the Media Arts Group and Ruth Pundt, we were able to get two members from the Science Center in our studio for some live demonstrations!

Pete Yancone and Wendy Ackerman both work at the Science Center in the educational department. When it comes to hands on activities and demonstrations, they are ready to roll! The main idea they wanted to present during our show was how certain science myths can be broken.

The two main topics they focused on included ideas surrounding the Spring Equinox and Pie Day. Pete brought three eggs with him and a broom…and that’s all I’m going to say. You’ll have to watch the episode to see what happened next! Did the broom stand alone? Did the eggs break?

For someone who isn’t a real fan of science, I have to say, I did learn a lot. Along with these demonstrations, Wendy also shared some additional information about the Science Center. They have three floors filled with multiple exhibits, a planetarium, and an observatory…so essentially something that is of interest to everyone! It’s a great place to expand your knowledge and walk away having learned something new.

So make sure your channel is set to 973 on Wednesday, March 29th at 10AM to see what happens!

The program will also be available online the following day at oakcresttv.com.

Happy learning!

Readers’ Theater Presents…

This coming week there is a performance on Channel 973 that you do not want to miss. Have you ever had income tax problems? Well if so, now you know how Gracie and George Burns felt.

The George Burns and Gracie Allen Show: Income Tax Problems features a cast of 7 residents who love to perform. The cast includes, Frank Martin, Louise Kaufman, Ellsworth Williams, Harvey Jacob, Carol Hagan, Ursula Jacob, and Jay Lyston. Each resident has a unique role that will have you laughing many times throughout the performance.

This hit show aired back in the 1950’s for eight years, and received many Emmy Award nominations. The show was originally staged live and broadcast every other Thursday at 8pm. The show set always aimed at looking like an actual real life living room during that time period.

This performance is full of laughs, sarcastic commentary, and great acting! You’ll even hear what some of the advertisements sounded like back in the day!

So sit back from the comfort of your living room on Friday, March 24th at 10AM to watch Gracie and George tackle some situational problems. The show also airs at 2PM, 7PM, 9PM, 12AM and online at oakcresttv.com the following day.

Let’s Talk Sports!

I’m going to start everyone off with a short quiz! It’s easy, I promise, so don’t stop reading yet! In the picture above we have a Towson University basketball player, a sports broadcaster, an avid golfer, and a Penn State baseball catcher…can you tell which title goes to each person?

Oh, and you won’t find out the answers until the show airs on Channel 973 on Friday, March 17th at 10AM …I know, I know, I’m sorry.

Here at the Oak Crest Network we love receiving feedback. Recently, we have been getting requests to have more sports related shows on our channel, and we couldn’t agree more!

I’m sure you have all seen the ever popular “Jeff and Jim Sports Talk Show”, but we decided to bring in Mark Roussey and John Gregory for this first edition of the 2017 year. It was such a great time hearing them talk about the history of sports and how it has evolved and changed over time. The intergenerational aspect especially made for a great discussion.

You will hear everything from their time spent playing in college, to certain rules that will be enforced this spring when it comes to baseball, to what team each person is going to pick to win March Madness (suggestions welcome). And of course, we can’t leave out the beloved Ravens. Will they fire Harbaugh? Will this be his last season? And the question everyone wants an answer to…is Joe Flacco elite?

Make sure you tune in on Friday, March 17th at 10AM on Channel 973. And not to worry, if you miss the 10AM show you can tune back in again at 2PM, 7PM, 9PM, and 12midnight. It will also be available the following day at oakcresttv.com.

If I do say so myself, this show is a “slam dunk”, a real “homerun”, a “hole in one”…you know I couldn’t get away without having a sports pun in this article somewhere…

The Future is Now

GREETINGS…from the future! Well…not quite yet. The future is something everyone is always talking about. What are your plans next weekend? Should we book a trip for next year? Should I get the latest iPhone or wait for them to come out with a newer version?

Everyday things are changing. Software systems are constantly being updated, cars are getting the latest and greatest installations, and technology is changing quicker than we blink our eyes. How do we stay up to date with everything that’s happening? Better yet, is it even possible?

On Tuesday, 4 Oak Crest residents sit down to discuss things they think will disappear in their lifetime. The conversation involving the ever popular app, Uber, was brought to the table, focusing on how this app will take off for riders everywhere. Whether you need a ride home after dinner, don’t feel like driving yourself to the airport, or it’s just too cold to walk home from around the block (which I must admit, I have done before…), they believe this app will continue to get new features to increase it’s popularity.

Some other hot topics include constant software updates, using your eyes to obtain or give information, fingerprint scanning instead of credit cards, the increase in 3D Printers, and the use of windmills across the country to preserve the environment.

So what do you think the future looks like? Tune in on Tuesday, March 7th at 10AM, 2PM, 7PM, 9PM, and 12AM to find out! You can also watch the program online the following day at oakcresttv.com
