Faith is taking the first step even when you don’t see the whole staircase
This past week we celebrated the life of one of the most prominent figures in history; Martin Luther King, Jr. On Monday, January 23rd, we will have our own celebration of his life in Erickson Hall at 11AM filled with great speakers and wonderful performances.
We gather in the hall each year to commemorate and honor the long hours MLK Jr. put in as a civil rights activist. He led the 1955 Montgomery bus boycott, founded the Southern Christian Leadership Conference in 1957 along with serving as its first president, organized nonviolent protests in Alabama, and helped organize the March on Washington in 1963.
And I’m sure everyone remembers the “mission moment” from last year. The bad weather caused a bit of a hiccup in the morning, causing a few cancellations to the event…but that didn’t stop Oak Crest. Jim Truitt, Andrew Kleinschmidt, and Dan Plakatoris stepped in and harmonized to the song Amazing Grace. Everyone was blown away and astonished. It’s funny how such a random act of kindness can leave such a huge impact.
If you were unable to get tickets for the event, the program will air on Channel 973 on Thursday, January 26th at 10AM, 2PM, 7PM, 9PM, and 12 midnight. It will also be available online the following day at oakcresttv.com
