Behind timely hitting, solid defense and clutch pitching, the Good Guys, the resident softball team at Oak Crest, earned a pair of victories to capture the Annual Erickson Living Softball Tournament.

It was their third consecutive championship.  The Good Guys also won the tournament in 2011, 2012, 2014 and 2015.

The event, held in Catonsville at Charlestown on June 8, matched residents from Oak Crest, Charlestown, Riderwood (Silver Spring) and Greenspring (northern Virginia) in a two-round format.

In the opening game, the Good Guys jumped to an early lead to defeat Charlestown 15-1.

In a highly competitive championship game, Oak Crest defeated Riderwood 7-5.

The Good Guys received vocal, enthusiastic support from residents of Oak Crest who made the trip to Charlestown.

If you weren’t able to make it to the game, Oak Crest TV will feature highlights as part of a show with updates from our Special Trips department. The show will air on Thursday, June 30th at 10:00 AM with rebroadcasts at 2 PM, 7 PM, 9 PM, and 12 AM. The show will also be available at www.oakcresttv.com.

For the past 6 months, resident Darlene Koch and her flag day committee have been working tirelessly to put on a great show for the Oak Crest Community. From knitting ties, to perfecting pamphlets, to putting up decorations, Flag Day 2016 was a huge success.

Flag Day is celebrated on June 14th every year. The sole reason we celebrate this day is due to the adoption of the flag of the United States, which happened back on June 14th, 1777. Several Presidents and many people had a huge role in getting our flag where it is today.

During the program, each resident will talk about a different star that was added to the flag. You will hear about the history of the flag, as well as what Presidents served under the flag, and any other important information regarding that specific flag.

And what is a celebration without music? You will get to hear some great songs including God Bless America and The Star Spangled Banner. And the most special part of the program for a lot of residents was the folding of the American flag. What some people didn’t know is that each fold has a very specific meaning…and you are able to hear that and learn what the meaning is during the program. The flag that was folded will be given to a troop of soldiers overseas.

This program will air on Oak Crest Now on Tuesday, June 21st at 10AM, 2PM, 7PM, 9PM, and 12AM. You can also catch this broadcast online the following day at oakcresttv.com.

Erickson Living successfully serves meals to over 23,000 residents each year across 70 dining venues. When providing menu options, the opportunities for creativity and originality are endless, however the dining program has not significantly changed since Charlestown opened over 30 years ago.

Erickson Living is ready to evolve our Dining Program to meet the desires of today’s residents and position dining as a market differentiator for future residents.  This will require a focus on the fundamentals and a culture of Operational Excellence – one that creates an environment in every kitchen and dining venue that supports the highest culinary models while fostering innovative and creative cuisines.

Simply put, the goal is: “Fresh, made-to-order, resident focused menu offerings; executed at the moment of service that personalizes the culinary experience, in smaller, distinctive venues to deliver an exceptional dining experience.”

With this is mind, Oak Crest’s Dining Services team has made it their mission to help residents better understand the new Signature Dining process through focus groups, call-in shows on Channel 973, and Town Hall Meetings with residents. One such Town Hall meeting will be coming up next week and Oak Crest TV will bring it to you live as it happens.

The meeting will be held on Thursday, June 16th at 10:00 AM in John Erickson Hall. The meeting will also be broadcast live on Channel 973 as part of Oak Crest Now. The meeting will also rebroadcast at 2 PM, 7 PM, 9 PM, and 12 AM, then it will be available the next day at www.oakcresttv.com.
